UCSD BIOENGINEERING BUILDING

Powell-Focht Bioengineering Hall provides a unique environment for bioengineering research, education, clinical development and technology transfer. It is the first phase of a precinct plan creating a new Academic Court of Engineering Sciences. The building program consists of secured research laboratories, lab support functions, instructional laboratories, shared core research facilities, and research offices, as well as administrative office space, meeting and interaction space, and a technology-rich lecture hall. Each of the five floors is dedicated to one of the department’s major research focus areas. It was designed under the guidelines of Pacific Gas and Electric’s Savings by Design program and resulted in a 25 percent reduction in energy consumption below minimum code-required standards.
