The Rose Center Theater and Cultural Center creates a civic centerpiece the anchors a pedestrian-oriented complex that includes a community college learning center and a park located across from the city hall. It consists of a 420-seat theatre, a 500-seat divisible banquet hall with kitchen facilities, and connecting foyers that accommodate a variety of functions and performance types. Back-of-house facilities include dressing rooms, makeup room, technical spaces and storage. A series of contiguous courtyards, terraces and walkways create communal spaces for outdoor functions. Although cost was the driving factor for the city, CO designed a landmark building that offers elegant yet versatile spaces and uses simple materials – glass, concrete masonry units and stone – in innovative and creative ways.
