Brent Martin: New Landscape Paintings
Opening Reception: July 10, 2014 5:30 – 9:00 pm
July 10 – October 31, 2014

“This cinematic study of Southern California freeway space explores how we use the land, how we see it, and represent it. Driving along the freeways, the surroundings seem to fly past like scenes from a film. These paintings represent key frames of our collective experience of urban and rural landscapes, as captured from this vantage point.

This series forms part of an ongoing exploration into the connective fabric of urban and rural life at varied scales. These include a 4000-mile cross-country US freeway photography study/stop-motion film, and a 40-foot-long section/elevation drawing through the city of Rome, exploring the creation of the street through buildings and their facades.”
