UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA SCHOOL OF MEDICINE

CO Architects led the long-range program and master plan study of existing academic facilities and expansion/renovation of medical educational facilities for the Perelman School of Medicine. The parameters of this study include assessment of existing conditions program review and forecast to support ongoing curricular change and LCME recommendations. The master plan is organized as a multi-phase building construction sequence, addressing important issues of staging, space utilization, infrastructure and budget. Important characteristics of the study include creating a strong physical identity, addressing way finding, and creating both emerging forms of learning space and a broader range of student community space. Bounded by buildings of important historical value, the project required high sensitivity to historical context and an appropriate design response.
