UCLA BOTANY BUILDING LOBBY RENOVATION

The newly renovated entrance and lobby of the Paul Williams-designed Botany Building enhances the building’s visibility and reinforces its purpose as the home of the Ecology and the Evolutionary Biology Department. CO redesigned the existing entry, opening up the lobby by replacing the exit stairs’ solid walls with a roll-down fire shutter, creating unobstructed views from the front door through to the garden beyond. A glass mosaic tile wall – based on a sketch found in the original 1957 architectural drawings for the building – anchors the design of the lobby. CO is currently working on designs for the complete renovation of the building, which will include research and teaching laboratories.
