ASU Health Futures Center Groundbreaking

On April 25th, CO Architects was on hand to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new Health Futures Center (HFC) for Arizona State University adjacent to the Phoenix Mayo Clinic Campus.

The first building on a new ASU campus supporting the Mayo Clinic and Arizona State University Alliance for Health Care, it will be a destination for top-quality health care research, professional education, industry interaction and treatment breakthroughs. The three-floor, 145,200-square-foot, $80-million health sciences facility will establish a nexus of interdisciplinary research, innovation, and medical simulation. CO is serving as the design architect, master planner, laboratory planner, simulation planner, and interior designer for the HFC along with with Phoenix-based DFDG Architecture as Executive Architect. DPR Construction is the construction manager for the project.

The new building represents a collaborative partnership between ASU and the Mayo Clinic, and will combine the Mayo Clinic’s expertise in complex patient care, medical health solutions and research with ASU’s robust engineering, informatics, health solutions and nursing programs. The HFC will combine programs from ASU’s College of Health Solutions, College of Nursing and Health Innovation, and Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering (including its Entrepreneurship + Innovation program), as well as shared programs with Mayo Clinic. Innovative spaces in the new building include a MedTech Accelerator, biomedical engineering and informatics research labs, nursing programs and an innovative education zone. The Health Futures Center is scheduled to open in late 2020.

“The goal of the Alliance is to accelerate research discoveries, transform medical education and improve patient care through practice advances. This building represents both progress in our work together and a commitment to future innovation.”

– Gianrico Farrugia, M.D., President & CEO, Mayo Clinic
