UCR School of Medicine Education Building II Celebrates Ribbon Cutting
On September 26th, the CO Architects + Hensel Phelps design-build team gathered to celebrate the ribbon cutting of Education Building II (SOM EDII)! The 90,000-sf building provides much-needed student life space, flexible classrooms and learning studios, and administrative space. A new plaza knits together the surrounding buildings to create a School of Medicine Precinct that will be used to host events and serve as a daily gathering space.
Designed to break down barriers to medical education, the building is transparent and welcoming to students, faculty and the broader local community. The SOM EDII supports the university's mission to train a diverse physician workforce to meet the medically underserved region's healthcare needs.
"The architecture of the building is intrinsically linked to the visions and the goals of the School of Medicine to create open and transparent spaces to demystify medical education."
James Simeo, Principal at CO Architects
