The new Hope Plaza outpatient center offers patients access to leading cancer treatment in a tranquil and inviting environment. Designed collaboratively by CO Architects and EwingCole, the project was inspired by the natural flow of water from the San Gabriel Mountains. The eight-story, 350,000-GSF facility sits like a “boulder in a stream”, referencing the region's alluvial plains and gravel quarries.

Designed to showcase the mountains, the north face of Hope Plaza is entirely glass, highlighting the stunning seasonal views. The east and west facades are covered in chevron-shaped anodized metal panels that shift color throughout the day. Perforated window shades allow dappled light to enter the program spaces.

Hope Plaza harnesses nature and views to create a compassionate, patient-centric approach while delivering the highest standard of cancer care through a flexible, multidisciplinary model with the latest technology. It is organized to meet patient needs, with minimized travel distances and proximate services. The program includes infusion bays, exam clinics, imaging rooms, phlebotomy and venous access device services, laboratories, pharmacy and patient amenity areas. The amenities include new 1.65-acre Ted Schwartz Family Hope and Healing Park, which features an outdoor event space, meditation gardens, shade structures, and art sculptures.

From the moment patients arrive, City of Hope offers a carefully choreographed journey: a welcoming approach leads to the parking structure, which then flows naturally into the park before culminating at Hope Plaza. Comprised of thousands of colorful metal tags, the parking structure facade draws inspiration from the campus 'Wishing Trees' where patients and their loved ones tie messages of hope and healing.
